I just don’t know if I believe anymore.
Many good people, spiritual people have serious doubts about really important Christian themes:
- How can God be good, but allow so much misery?
- Some stuff in the Bible seems really far-fetched. Is it literally true?
- If God is truly loving, why would he allow most human beings to end up in eternal hell?
- And what about that whole evolution thing?
- Etc, etc, etc.
When we look around at these and other issues, even loyal, devout Christians find themselves struggling to believe.
Many Christian traditions disallow doubts. Questioning core beliefs, or believing something different from the orthodox view is not just discouraged, it’s prohibited. Unfortunately, the church has a history of repressing free thought.
At NRCC, we are a Christian community trying our best to allow one another to be authentic, honest, and spiritual. We accept doubt and questions as part of the journey. People who doubt even core Christian beliefs are fully accepted.
