It happens. Sometimes church-folk treat people like potential notches for their belts. They work to get folks to join the fold, pray the prayer, believe the right stuff, and then, bam, like a multi-level marketer, they are on to the next recruit.
Sadly, this approach reduces Christianity to a one-step conversion process aimed at getting people to heaven. We seem to have lost Jesus’ call to pray and work so that things on earth would be as they are in heaven. The idea of truly caring for people, for one another, and for the earth seems to have gotten lost along the way.
At NRCC, we’re trying to broaden our experience of Christianity. We’re learning that being Christian is more than getting saved. Being Christian includes sharing our spiritual journeys together, working out our soul-health in the context of spiritual friendships. It includes linking our lives with one another in love, honesty, and acceptance.
If you are a non-practicing Christian because you couldn’t bear the church’s unloving ways, scalp-hunting ways, consider NRCC. We are a Christian community trying our best to live differently, to love all earth’s citizens generously, and to walk in authentic openness. We’d love for you to join us.
