Church is for “perfect” people. I’m not perfect.

You’ve got stuff. We’ve got stuff. Everybody has some nasty little coping strategies that get us through the day. You might work too much, spend too much, drink too much, or struggle with one of a million different addictions. Some “stuff” is more socially acceptable, some is really taboo. However, all stuff is basically the same.

The saddest part of this is that most people with real life-struggles look around, and assume that others are much more “together” than themselves. And for many, the perception is that the “together people” are the ones who go to church.

And well-intentioned churches can unwittingly reinforce this notion. People who attend church feel the pressure to either be perfect, or to pretend to be. Gone is the Jesus-attitude that we accept one another where and how we are.

At NRCC, we’re working hard to be a trusting and trustworthy community. If you left the church because you weren’t perfect and it showed, we invite the real you to walk with us. Come as you are, and we’ll do the same.
