Church wore me out. I just want some peace!

Have you worn busyness as a badge of honor? It’s understandable. We like to feel needed. We like to feel important. Those with the fullest calendars are the most important, right?

Truth to be told, the modern Christian church lives smack in the middle of our go-go society. Consequently, churches often live the same go-go values. We imagine God as a corporate president who measures our productivity, determine our worthiness, and hands out blessings accordingly. When we “work for the church”, we are working for God, right? How can that be bad?

God knows there are only 24 hours in a day. If you’ve got more to do than will fit in your calendar, some of the things on your list are not God’s idea. It is particularly sad that sometimes, those extra things that burn us out include serving in the church.

Many of us at NRCC are recovering from well-intentioned, misplaced commitments we should never have taken on. We’ve learned the importance of balancing seasons of rest with seasons of contribution.

If you left the church feeling burned out, unappreciated, or used up, consider NRCC. Consider it a soft place to land while you heal from the inside out and rediscover God’s perfect purpose for your gifts.
